The Horizon Middle School addition was designed to function independently from the existing school, providing space for 1,2000 fifth and sixth grade students, teachers and staff. The addition supports a 21st century learning environment with eight learning communities. Each community includes six learning studios, lab space, a maker studio, large and small group learning studios, teacher planning, resource storage, locker bay and support spaces. Shared spaces throughout the school are the media center, technology studio and learner support services. These are centrally located and accessible to all students. The facility also includes two full-sized gyms and student commons/cafeteria which seats up to 400.
Focusing on fine arts, additional spaces include three dedicated elementary music studios, a band room, orchestra room and two art studios. A 750 seat multi-purpose auditorium was designed for fifth through eighth grade student use and performances. The stage accommodates 120 musicians and has a control room, scene shop, fine arts storage and a tech level catwalk that is safely accessible for student use.
