Discovery Middle School was originally built in the early 90’s and after a gradual enrollment increase and the need to expand music, sports activities, and commons spaces the district decided to embark on a journey to expand and remodel the school to fit their needs. The project took place while school and summer activities were still in session. This meant that thorough planning went into the schedule to accommodate school activities and classes. Work was completed in sections for minimal interruptions to students throughout the year.
In addition to increased safety and security throughout the school and its main entrance the commons and cafeteria were expanded, the administrative offices were relocated to be closer to the main entrance, athletic locker rooms and bathroom facilities were upgraded. A new multi-purpose wrestling room was added, band and drama rooms were next to the existing theater wing, and the special education areas were upgraded. The entire building was refurbished and refreshed with new features to bring a cohesive identity to the existing and new spaces.
